David is a Solicitor in our Commercial Property team, and an expert in commercial real estate development and finance.

David has acted for national and regional developers and landowners on the strategic acquisition of commercial and residential development of land, including drafting and negotiating options, contracts conditional on planning and collaboration and promotion agreements.

He has extensive experience of acting for landlords and tenants in respect of leases, agreements for lease, assignments, licences, AGAs, rent deposits and suchlike.

David also has experience in development finance and has acted for developers, banks, building societies, pension funds and alternative finance providers on acquisition and development funding, including forward sale and forward funding agreements on high value structured commercial development sites.

  • Assisting in the acquisition of circa £15 million of office development space on behalf of a Jersey domiciled fund focused on UK Regional Offices. The largest of the transactions concerned the purchase of a five-storey, 40,000 sq ft office building sold fully let and located within one of the UK’s largest office and retail regeneration schemes.
  • Assisting in the acquisition of a number of bare land sites, pursuant to options to purchase, on behalf of a prominent UK wide house builder for the development of new build residential property.
  • Completing a wide range of commercial and residential property and development work as detailed in my experience.
  • Successfully drafting and negotiating the conditional sale and purchase agreement, and subsequent development agreement, for a warehouse and showroom development valued at over £1 million, for a national building supplies retailer and continue to act for the same client as they look to expand their retail operations across the UK.
  • Advising on refinancing of a portfolio of leasehold properties for a quickly expanding chain of restaurants, as well as drafting and negotiating leases of new sites as part of multi-million-pound expansion, with the view to float on the stock market in the next 12 months.
  • Working with a UK leading operator of crematoria and cemeteries, advising on the leases of sites, development agreement and associated issues.
  • Working for a world leader in sustainable banking, advising and reporting on the portfolio of 20+ care home properties across the UK as part of a multi-million refinancing project. Advising the same on the financing of new large-scale care home development on an unregistered land site in the South West of England.
  • Advising on the refinancing of portfolio sites for social housing development for a national property developer.
  • Advising a national developer of both residential and commercial estates on the acquisition, funding, re-development and subsequent lettings of an 86-acre mixed use development in the South West of England.
