Kate Evans
Kate is an Associate in our Construction, Energy & Projects team, who has sector specific expertise in renewable energy.
She helps clients in the public and private sectors with their construction, energy, infrastructure, and major projects, acting for national and local government, private sector developers, financial institutions, housing associations and community energy groups.
Kate’s work ranges from drafting and negotiating bespoke construction contracts for energy projects; to advising upon the contents and negotiating standard form contracts for use on construction projects e.g. JCT.
Kate initially trained and qualified as a renewable energy solicitor, before developing her construction law expertise. Day-to-day experience of engaging with energy projects has provided Kate with a unique insight into energy and construction projects, and how they often interlink. Her work involves renewable technology such as onshore wind and ground and roof mount solar, as well as on £multi-million UK government funded energy infrastructure projects.
Outside of work, Kate is currently a trustee for Cynnal Cymru, the leading organisation for Sustainable Development in Wales.
Kate is also certified as Carbon Literate, by the Carbon Literacy Project. This means that she can undertake training of others in the workplace, education and the community in carbon literacy matters.
- Drafting and negotiating collateral warranties on behalf of funder clients.
- Reviewing construction documentation, which is specific to energy projects.
- Drafting bespoke design, build, operate and maintain contract for the procurement of a solar farm for a public sector client.
- Reviewing, reporting and negotiating EPC and operation and maintenance service contracts for a community energy onshore wind turbine project.
- Reviewing and reporting upon a balance of plant contract for a wind turbine project for a private sector client.
- Drafting heads of terms for the use of negotiation in a development agreement between a client and a developer for the use of electricity generated from an anaerobic digestion site.
- Drafting collaboration agreement for use between parties on an innovative, £multi-million energy project.
- Reviewing construction contractual documentation (JCT suite) and advising funder client of the implications of clauses; alongside negotiating collateral warranties with consultants who had design responsibility on the project, to provide step-in rights to the funder.
