Wayne is a Partner in our Commercial Disputes team. He heads up Capital’s Intellectual Property team and is consistently recognised by the legal directories as one of stars of the IP litigation scene in the UK.

Wayne has extensive experience of resolving commercial disputes in the media, education and sport sectors. His primary area of expertise lies in resolving intellectual property (IP) disputes, data theft claims, defamation/malicious falsehood claims and providing reputation management advice.

Wayne regularly advises high profile sport clubs, film companies, and national bodies such as Cardiff City Football Club, The Royal Mint and the British Medical Association.

He also regularly delivers training to clients on Intellectual Property.

  • Advising a managing director and shareholder of a £multimillion food company in a dispute against the company’s majority shareholder. This was a particularly complex and multifaceted case, with allegations of breach of contract, gross misconduct, fraud and unfair dismissal.
  • Advising a large national employer on defamation/malicious falsehood claims, made across different social media platforms, by a former employee.
  • Working on a successful £multimillion high court action against Roadchef Limited’s former chairman, Timothy Ingram Hill. The claim involved allegations of breach of trust, breach of fiduciary duty and common law deceit. Wayne was integral in securing third party litigation funding for the claimant trustee company and worked diligently on the case for over three years which culminated in securing a High Court Judgment against the defendant in 2014.
  • Acting for Cardiff City Football Club in a £multimillion dispute with its former creditor, Langston and former chairman Sam Hammam. This high profile and highly sensitive dispute, dating back more than ten years, was ultimately settled on favourable terms in February 2016.
  • Acting for an international insurance company in High Court litigation against a Championship football club. The £2 million claim centred on allegations of breach of contract and defamation, and was settled prior to trial, resulting in a significant recovery for our client.
  • Acting for an international film company in a dispute with Channel 4 over the scope of broadcasting rights granted under a copyright license agreement. The dispute involved allegations of breach of contract and copyright infringement.
  • Acting for British Airways in a High Court action by the pilot’s trade union (BALPA). The declaratory relief sought had the potential to significantly impact on the airline’s profitability and formed part of a wider suite of industrial action taken by pilots against BA at the time.
